History Hound Travels

I think I have a plan, but I’m still not sure. Or perhaps I should say I have part of a plan?? My post yesterday reminded me of just how much I have learned about history by reading historical fiction. I think part of what I will do here is to review some of the books I have read for you. And also read some new ones. But just as part of my research, not out of any personal pleasure, LOL! Just Kidding with that one, as I am sure you realize.

I’ll also share some history sites that I have found on my internet travels. And finally, I’ll talk about actual people, places and things.

I love comments, and I love to answer questions. I am freakish enough to enjoy searching for answers, too, so please, do comment and ask whatever is on your mind.

It is my opinion that we turn young people off of history when we reduce it to a list of names and dates. Dry stuff, that. But history is at it’s heart a story. It’s about people, just like me and you. Motivated by ambition, love, avarice just as we are today. Plottings and intrigue, mrder and mystery, it’s all in there, and it’s all true. And just as your favorite novel is best digested with a cup of tea under a warm blanket, so too, is history.

Ditch the textbooks, and find books written by those with a love for the subject, and read those instead. An author with a passion or his subject can make the people of the past walk through your mind in living flesh!

Well, we have to start somewhere, now don’t we? I’ve had a love of history for as long as I can remember, and a passion for sharing my passion with people for about as long. This will be one of the sites where that comes together. I can’t promise you’ll find anything new here. I don’t hold advanced degrees, have no top secret clearance. I’m just a gal who thinks the past is intriguing and not best forgotten.

I have to tell you upfront that I am not exactly sure where this site is going. It sprang pretty much fully formed into my head, so I assume it has a plan. I don’t know how often I will post, but I hope daily.
